Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

My ancestry includes a member of Jean Lafitte's pirate crew and I tapped into that ancient ancestry to give myself a viewing of the much anticipated(here in the States) release of Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone. It's schedule for limited theatrical release in the US in November followed shortly by a DVD release by Funimation.

It's a remake. I have strong feelings about remaking old films, shows, etc. They just aren't the same and rarely do they ever surpass or reach their original creations. Evangelion was originally a 26(correct me if I'm wrong) episode series followed by two movies. It's considered a masterpiece despite much of the debate about the overall story of the show.

Director Hideaki Anno revisited this show with much of same crew that made the original for a rebuild that would take place over the course of 4 movies(if I remember correctly). His intentions were to update the art of the show, clarify the ending(settle the old debate once and for all), and iron out the overall story. Now I have to admit that after watching 1.0, I can say that he's accomplished all three in the first movie. It really is an improved masterpiece and I can't wait for the follow up movies. The story has been changed. Much is the same and yet when watching it, it feels like a fresh start. I look forward to being impressed further with the future installments and while I did pirate it to see it now rather than later, I'm planning on setting the cash down to get my hands on a DVD when it gets officially released.

Yes I know at AnimeExpo, they did a screening of the movie. :( I missed it. I also missed meeting the director. Bah, lol.
